Automated Meter Reading
Oncor Electric Deliver is quickly installing Advanced Meters (AMI) to all of the premises in our service area with a goal of having 100% conversion of our electric grid by 2010. The advantages of replacing the current meter technology can be summarized in the following:
- Advanced meters will be capable of providing energy usage in time increments smaller than the 30 day usage recorded by older meters to help consumers better manage their energy use by capturing.
- Advanced meters may allow enhanced service opportunities for the competitive market, increase security and pave the way for faster restoration times by providing our operations teams with ongoing “pictures” of Oncor electrical grid. Our brief operational history with these meters shows outage prevention is possible by finding “hot-spots” where equipment may be starting to fail.
- Advanced meters will help avoid estimated meter readings, skipped meters, and inconvenience to customers with hard-to-reach meters.
